Jamboree History
In 1920 B.-P. called in London the first Jamboree of scouting history: they met near Olympia Palace, a wide pavilion for fair with a roof of glass, there are scouts from 21 Countries and from 12 English colonies.

In 1920 B.-P. called in London the first Jamboree of scouting history: they met near Olympia Palace, a wide pavilion for fair with a roof of glass, there are scouts from 21 Countries and from 12 English colonies.
Races, parades, scouts games, national performances showed every day to millions of visitors scouting’s magnificent potentiality.
B.-P., cheered "Scout Chef of the world", broke up Jamboree with these words: "we must go on together to develop scout spirit of fraternity, making reign between people peace and good will that takes everyone to quiet."

There wasn’t any badge; we remember this Jamboree with this symbol after the Jamboree,
reproducing Olympia Palace.

2nd Jamboree
ERMELUNDEN - DENMARK 1924
The second Jamboree was the first completely scout: they sleeped under canvas and they worked in the open air.
His formulation and his programs will be as example for next Jamborees.
It rained very much, so that a night, being flooded the camp, 4549 present scouts were stayed by inhabitants of Copenhagen.
Every department had a feather as leader and adviser; after the camp there was a week of "Home Hospitality".

For the first time there was a “Jamboree badge"; in the middle of Danish flag there was the number of registration of every present.

3rd Jamboree
ARROWE PARK - ENGLAND 1929
The third was the "Jamboree of age": scouting, born with the publication of the book "Scouting for boys" in 1908, was 21 years old.
50000 scouts took part, they faced smiling incessant rain of three first days, so cam land as a great quagmire we remember this jamboree as "Mud Jamboree".
Badge of this meeting was golden arrow, that B.-P. called "peace scout badge", and he invited to throw it "fast end far so all the people can know human fraternity".
B.-P. was elected Lord and he decided to be Lord Baden-Powell of Gilwell (Gilwell was already in 1919 the place where there were School Camps for Leaders).

Golden arrow badge take the name from meeting place: Arrowe Park. Arrow becomes peace and god will badge.

4th Jamboree
GÖDÖLLÖ - HUNGARY 1933
Hungary Jamboree had as badge the white deer; "You look at this deer - B.-P. said – as to the scouting spirit, who goes on and always more up and it will take more on and always more up, jumping all the difficulties and ready to new adventures...".
A particular atmosphere of fraternity was established in this Jamboree and it was called “Smiling faces and loving hearts Jamboree". Difficulties for the language not official called "Jamboreese", made with gestures and large smiles.

The white deer represents wonderful deer who led, following the old legend, first Magyars to fertile plains of the present Hungary. Badge drawing is made by Laios Martin, famous Hungarian scout draftsman.

5th Jamboree
VOGELENZANG - HOLLAND 1937
"Bird’s sing Jamboree" (Vogelenzang translation) was remembered for the perfect cleaning there was.
During the Jamboree two French Rovers left to Indonesia for a raid who remained in the history (who was never heard of Guy de Larigaudie, the legendary rover, asks at once for some information to Leaders!).
It was the last Jamboree before 2^ World War and the last who B.-P. took part (he died in Kenya in 1941); he said good-bye with these words: "A lot of you will never see me. I’m 80 years old and my life is at the end. A lot of you are at beginning and I wish you happiness and success. You will arrive if you will do the best to put in the practice every day Scout Law, whatever your social position and wherever you will be".

The badge represented is sailing instrument known as "Jacob’s stick", used by first Dutch explorers during their trips around the world. Coloured strokes on the Jacob’s stick were of different colours for every under camps (under camp nth1).

6th Jamboree
MOISSON - FRANCE 1947
The war was finished not long ago, hates between people, weren’t yet appeased and scouts with "Peace Jamboree", showed to the World how strong is the bond of fraternity that unites them.
During opening ceremony B.-P.’s voice was circulated, he was died in 1941.
Squads had thought and realised an exploit between many scouting activities to take part. The techniques and many opportunities of meeting were the leading thread of this important Jamboree.

Carrik knot symbolizes scout’s ability on the open air and the plot of all Scouts in world fraternity.
This badge was worn by all the people who worked to Jamboree logistics camp (installation and dismantling, police, firemen, health service, ...).
Every under camps had his badge as this, but with under camp name.
Every presents badge had the necessary buttonhole to fix it to the button of the small pocket.

7th Jamboree
BAD ISCHL - AUSTRIA 1951
The seventh Jamboree was simplicity Jamboree, thanks to the simple organisation of Austrian Scouts; it was based on style and fraternity.
A lot of wood provided allowed to the limits indulge whit them in every kind of building; opening day were hoisted six towers, to reminder last Jamboree, and more one for Austrian Jamboree.
German and Japanese boy-scouts come again in the big scout family, while Est European Countries Scouting were absent because they were disbanded by communist dictatorships.

Jamboree badge is "Jew’s harp", an old musical instrument very popular between the people in Austrian mountains.

8th Jamboree
NIAGARA ON THE LAKE - CANADA 1955
It was first Jamboree out of Europe (“New Horizons Jamboree�).
Canadian hospitality made an excellent impression, so as made impression the arrival of Connie hurricane; activities had home innovations (for example water-ski) and there was a large time for expressions techniques.
During closing ceremony scout paraded in groups of eight different nationalities, embraced as a sign of brotherly union.

Behind the lily an arrow point is drawn to remember Indians who lived in Canada.

9th Jamboree
SUTTON PARK - ENGLAND 1957
The centenary of B.-P.’s birth, 50 years after first Scout camp in Brownsea Island: it needed an extraordinary Jamboree to celebrate these anniversaries and it was "Jubilee Jamboree".
It was at the sometime Jamboree, Indaba (Leaders’ world meeting) and Moot (Rover’s world meeting): J.I.M.
There was rain, a little haunting as too many present visitors.
Forts time a radio-amateur joined Jamboree to the world (so that the idea of "Jamboree on the Air": it took place every year since 1958).

10th Jamboree
MAKILING - PHILIPPINES 1959
It was first Jamboree in Asia, the occasion to meet very different cultures.
The motto was "To build today tomorrow"; it was called "Bamboo Jamboree" because Head Quarter buildings as near villages’ piles, were made with this material.
Philippines’ smile was unforgettable.

11th Jamboree
MARATONA - GREECE 1963
"More up and more far" was the motto of this Jamboree, it started with kodoo blade (used by B.-P. during the Brownsea camp in 1907).
Sadness was in our hearts because news arrived about Philippin contingent death, owing to air crash.
Among different activities there was Talent - or - Rama, a kind of abilities fair where every squadron (about 2.000) could shaw his abilities.
Closing ceremony was given to American scouts a torch, to fight 12th Jamboree fire.

The badge is miniature reproduction of old Greek people Beotian’s shield: it shows hardiness of scout ideals. Two olive branches symbolize peace and ten leaves are scout law points

12th Jamboree
FARRAGUT STATE PARK - IDAHO (U.S.A.) 1967
"Friendship’s Jamboree" was the 12th.
Wonderful place (Rocks Mountains) and perfect organization created a really scout atmosphere; activities were different and ... scout: boys who overcame light on thirteen activities had as price a special catch- foulard.
A special badge was given to boys finishing "friendship game", a group of tests to overcome by boys of different nationalities.

13th Jamboree
ASAGIRI HEIGHTS - JAPAN 1971
Fuji Mountain was the background of this Jamboree, the motto was "To understand oneself". There were classic scout activities, but also there was possibility to challenge with martial arts: judo, kendo, sumo.
A typhoon, it poured and there was wind 100 km a hour, Sundays were finished; the best Japanese organization settled situation (the camp was half-destroyed) people was empty and they can come back to their tents the day after.

14th Jamboree
LILLEHAMMER - NORWAY 1975
"Five fingers, one hand": five Continents, by themselves, can’t be (as a finger without others, it can’t be an hand): it was the "Nordjamb '75" subject, to also the union of 5 organizer countries (Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Iceland).
Activities were very "scout" and Hike was unforgettable, it was carried out with explorers of other nations; first time "on electronic brain" appeared at the Jamboree, it was employed to organize every present’s activities.

15th Jamboree
KANANASKIS - ALBERTA (CANADA) 1983
15th Jamboree was cancelled for security measures: it was in 1979 in Iran but political situation of this country dissuaded feasibility.
Here we were in Canada in 1983 for a Jamboree who had the motto "Spirit will live". This Jamboree was developed at the end of 75° Scouting anniversary and 125 years after B.-P.’s birth. Camp Handy was a special activity, among many others, here a boy not perfect physically could face same objectives. Camp Rafting was an other activity: the building of a raft and the descend on a river 5 Km along.

16th Jamboree
CATARACT SCOUT PARK - AUSTRALIA 1987/'88
31 December, between 1987-1988, Jamboree operating in Australia: a different experience on the other side of the World!
Very different activities; Challenge Valley (a kind of war-way ...) was the most cheered.
11 under camps had typical Australian animals name: Emù, Kangaroo, ...

On the globe we can see only Australia, host country; the other nations are not showed to signified that scout is "world citizen".

17th Jamboree
MT. SORAK NATIONAL PARK - COREA 1991
Est Countries brothers come back in the Scout big family; thanks to the help of other associations there were also many African scouts.
There "pearls" of fraternity were their background for a Jamboree, in a country with a very different culture; this Jamboree has supported as always certainty to be "Many Nations but one world" this was Jamboree motto.

On the background of the badge it is represented Sorak mountain, as a fan; first ride there is "Smile", Jamboree nice badge.

18th Jamboree
DRONTEN - HOLLAND 1995
It was the second Jamboree in Holland (the first in 1937); Staff, with more than 6.000 leaders, has permitted the corse of a dilating with a very good style; many different charred activities (hike, sailing, survival way, make up, games, ...).
Bad weather forecasts were completely contradicted: sun was always shining.
Nautical Scouts of all the world arrived in Amsterdam, they made a big fleet of scout ships (la "Big Armada") and then they leaved all together for Dronten.
Jamboree motto was "the future is now", a challenge to live before, during but above all after Jamboree for every present.

19th Jamboree
PICARQUIN - CHILE 1998/'99
It was first Jamboree in South America.
Jamboree motto was "to build together peace": it was the invitation to assume an active part for building peace, without being only witness.
The weather has always been fine (30/35 degrees) and many different activities were done (activities about science and technology, artistic and cultural expression, environment, underestimating and peace between cultures), "Tournament" (Squadron’s physical ability way), "The earth feeds us" (visits to agricultural areas, packing fruits farms, mines...), "A day on community duty" (a day in a village making different activities beside Chilean citizens), "Hike" (three levels of difficulties, with overnight stay on the outside), and normal activities for a Jamboree (mutual knowledge, badges exchange, shows, introduction to own culture, opening and clearing ceremonies ...).
All the present were together in a big party the last day of the year.

20th Jamboree
SATTAHIP - THAILAND 2002/'03
Jamboree motto was "we must share our world, we must share our cultures", on invitation to own knowledge and to share friendship the world future.
Jamboree was on the shore, on a half Km beach.
Besides nautical activities ("Face the waves"), squadrons had attempted on physical ability ways ("Tournaments"), some days to Global Development Village, to discover important problems of development in the world today, to want together some solutions. They spend some days in the "City of the Science" to know and to test areas with computers and robotic, information and communication technology, science of life and whole world and at the end at the "Crossroads of Cultures" to know placed of origin of Jamboree presents.
Outside the Jam area, squadrons had made azimuth march, they dedicated a day to know Thailand heritage and a day on duty to a Thai community.
In the central open-air all 30.000 were together for opening ceremony, for the last year party, for an interreligious meeting first day of the year and for closing party, with the choral renovation of the promise.

The 20° Jamboree badge shows a typical Thailand roof.
Shaped pediments to A on the roof represent the development in Thailand of traditions and cultures and the division of these traditions from generation to another. The lily underlines meeting international character.

21th Jamboree
HYLANDS PARK - ENGLAND 2007
First scouting trial was the camp on Brownsea Island in 1907; next year Baden-Powell published (first as fifteen issues a week, than as a book) "Scouting for Boys" and the boys began autonomy "to do scouts" and so there was the birth of our Movement, today it is spread on all the countries in the world (except countries with dictatorial system of government).
21° Jamboree will be in England, the cradle of scouting, to celebrate first 100 years.
